The peach stone game comes from the Six Nations of the Iroquois. It's used during ceremonies and for social gatherings. The Peachstone game originates from our creation story. The game was played by the creator and his twin brother the punisher ( the evil one) for the rights to all creation. In the present time it's played during certain ceremonies, mid-winter, seed ceremony and the harvest ceremony. the Peach stone game is a bowl/dice game. The dice are the peach pits that are sanded smooth, and one side, the peach pit is burned and the other side is a natural color. when we play during mid-winter, we split the clans into two teams. The bear and turtle clans vs. the wolf clan. During the seed ceremony, we play men vs. the women. who ever is determined the winner will not have to plant the garden for that season.
The way the game is played
We use 101 beans as counters and they are put a side, between each player. The one extra bean is said that the one bean belongs to the creator, because he is the one who determines the out come of the game. ( the winners). Each player starts out with 5 beans each witch is taken from the pile of the 101. (note : There are no limit of how many people you have per team, just as long you have 2 teams.) then you have 2 counters and 2 bean holders per team. Holders, never count beans you have taken from other team. When you start playing the game you shake the bowl with the peach pits inside the bowl, then you set the bowl down. If you shake 5 black pits and 1 natural pit, you are aloud to take 1 bean, and you are able to take a second turn until you can't go any more. But if you shake all 6 black or all 6 the natural color then you are aloud to take all of the 5 beans of the player you are playing against, and again you go until you can't go any more. Then they have to choose another player from their team to play. Then the counter takes another 5 beans from the big pile and the game can continue. Once all the beans are gone from the 101 pile, start each player with the beans from the bean holder. He/she should have a hanky to hold the beans so no one can see how many beans each team has. You play this game until all beans are gone from one team. Once one team has no beans left to play with, they are the team that looses. This game can be played for a time of 30 minutes to 5 days!
