IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Oval leaves which are smooth or slightly hairy.
  • Waxy leaf surface with veins that run parallel.
  • Taproot with fibrous roots.
  • Leaves extend from a basal rosette.

 

 
 

 

TRADITIONAL USES:
  • Externally plantain is used to heal skin lesions.
  • Taken internally it is said to eliviates hemorrhages, piles and other ailments.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Plantain is a food source within the ecosystem.
  • Celtic cultures thought toads would comsume plantain to heal themselves.
