INSTRUCTION
Goal: To
learn the roles and the importance of their village officials
Behavioral
Objectives: Students will:
- Name
two officers from the village they reside in
- Name
one duty of the village officer
- Compare
and contrast roles of village officials from two different villages.
Prior Knowledge
Needed:
- The
student will name which village in which they reside.
- The
students will explain the meaning of “village officer”.
Materials and Resources Needed:
- Chart
with village names.
- Title
and duties of village officials.
- Names
of village officials from each village.
- Paper
- Pencil/markers
Culture
Content and Strategies:
- The
students and teacher will invite a village official from each village to
visit classroom by making and sending an invitation made by the students.
- The
students will identify the village officials.
Lesson Summary
and Performance Tasks:
This lesson will provide the students with the opportunity
to know who their individual village officials are and what their duties are.
The students will be presented with information about officials from all six
villages. Activities will include inviting a village official from each village
to come and speak to the students on different days within the four-week span.
Assessment:
- The
students will make a chart putting the village officials in order.
Assessed by accuracy of order.
- The
students will retell and draw pictures of an event presented by the
village officials. Assessed by teacher-made rubric.
- The
students will write about what they felt was the most important role of
being a village official. Assessed by writing rubric.
EXTENSION
Technology
Integration:
- Use
digital camera to take pictures of their village officials and print them
out to put in their portfolios.
- Use
computer to write stories on the lesson after the four-week session.
- Use
the program Inspiration to chart the order of the village officials.
Enrichment/Remediation:
- Students
will continue to learn more about tribal government regarding the
governing body for the Pueblo of Laguna.
- Students
will continue the use of the digital camera for further lessons.
- Students
will invite more elders to come visit our classroom.
