INSTRUCTION

 

Goal:  To learn about and appreciate traditional springtime activities related to new life within the seasons of the Laguna Pueblo.

Culture Content and Strategies:

The students will compare how animals are raised today as compared to how their relatives/grandparents raised them when they were in the K/1 grade.      

 

Lesson Summary and Performance Tasks:

Teacher will read to students and show pictures on the new life of baby animals. Teacher will explain and name each picture and have the students discuss what was read to them.

The students have been learning about which animals are born and raised on the Laguna Reservation. They will compare the baby animals raised today to the way baby animals were taken care of by their grandparents in the past.

 

Assessment:

Each student will have a portfolio to hold all they have illustrated and written regarding this lesson. The portfolio will be assessed by rubric and student progress will be discussed with the parents and the student.

 

Students will choose and retell a story about a baby animal of their choice. The reading will be assessed by rubric.

 

 

EXTENSION

 

Technology Integration:

Students will use the computer with help of the teacher to find pictures of the new beginnings of baby animals.

 

The students will make a HyperStudioÔ stack on baby animals with the help of the teacher.

 

Enrichment/Remediation:

Students will ask their parents to help them by asking them questions about the baby animals they raised when they were children.

 

Students will continue to add information to their HyperStudioÔ stack.
