Write the four baby animals in both Keres (Laguna) and
English.
Lesson Summary and Performance Tasks:
Teacher will read stories and show pictures of four baby animals that are commonly found on the reservation. The baby animals are calf, lamb, fawn and colt. The teacher will provide magazines so the students can cut out the pictures of the animals. The teacher will pronounce and write the names of the baby animals on the board, both in English and Laguna. The students will cut and glue the baby animals onto the construction paper. The teacher will pronounce the words, as this is being done the students will write the names of the animals by the pictures, both in English and Laguna using a pencil or marker.
Assessment:
Show illustrations of students’ work on bulletin board
Make a checklist for student identification and naming of the four baby animals in Keres and English
Keep students work in portfolio to be assessed by portfolio rubric.
Technology Integration: Students will use a digital camera to take pictures of baby animals on the reservation. Students will create HyperstudioÔ stacks, using the digital pictures or by scanning in, with the help of the teacher, hand-drawn or magazine pictures. Students will put sound files on the stacks, naming the animals in English and in Keres.
Enrichment/Remediation: Take students on a field trip to various sites that have baby animals within the Laguna Pueblo, such as sheep camps, etc. Take pictures of students with the baby animals when on the field trip. Ask students to bring pictures from home of self and baby animals.
