Lesson Summary and Performance Tasks:

The students will brainstorm how to build a chickee.  The students will discuss why Seminoles lived in chickees, leading to a discussion of the history of Seminole dwellings.  A community chickee builder will visit the class and talk about how to build a chickee.  Students can contact the Seminole Tribune (tribune@semtribe.com) and ask questions related to Seminole dwellings. They also can search the Internet for sites related to chickees.  Then the class will visit the worksite where the chickee is being built and take pictures using a digital camera.  A teacher-made essay test will be given at the end of the unit.
