INSTRUCTION

Goal: To promote cultural/language understanding and Native language vocabulary of naming zoo animals.

Behavioral Objectives:

Students will:

· List the zoo animals

· Describe zoo animals

· Use the Internet to search for zoo animals

· Name 3 or 4 zoo animals in Navajo

None needed

Materials and Resources Needed:

· Books about Zoo

· Magazines

· Art supplies

· Digital camera

· Information about Zoo animals

· Web sites pertinent to the topic

Lesson Summary and Performance Tasks:

This lesson will provide the students with the opportunity to name Zoo animals in Navajo and other Native languages and gain knowledge about the Zoo animals. Activities will include looking a pictures and/or photographs of the zoo animals. Visit the zoo and take digital pictures and extend the lesson to more research of the animals. Students will learn Navajo names of the animals, they will research the names of animals with the elders in the community.

Assessment:

· Retell the names of zoo animals in Navajo and other Native languages.

· Write three things about the animals.

· Local elder from the community.

Technology Integration:

Students will use digital camera and use the internet.
