Four Directions Site Visit to Takini

Visit Made By: Brian Newberry

Dates Of Visit: 14-15, January

Goals:
1) assist Val Hlavka in configuring web server for intranet use
2) discuss Summer Institute with Takini staff
4) assist teachers/classes in developing intranet resources

Objectives:
1) configure Takini web server to support the school's development of an intranet
2) discuss SI 99 with Takini team
3) create web pages for the Takini intranet

Activities:
On 14-Jan-99 Val and I worked to configure the NT server to work as a web serve and to support Macintosh networking. On 15-Jan-99 I worked with a good number of the Takini staff to create intranet pages.

Outcomes:
The Takini server was set up to work with Macintosh computers. A number of the Takini staff have created web resources for the intranet. Sadly, during the last session someone deleted most of the resources!

Staff Attending Intranet Session:
JV Awiw (sp?), Steve Vance, Mary Anderson, V. St. John, Micheline Demaret, Danielle Bartly, Tom Warford, Scott Keth, Roger Bell, Bernie H., Augie Albers, l. P (?), Pam, Sharon Guenther, Dudley Nelson,, Jack B., Judith Higgins, Iris Dupris, Val Hlavka, E. Evaluation Of Site Visit:
This site visit was a useful one. Takini is one of the original 4D schools and has gone though a lot of tumultuous changes in the past three years. Staff attending the sessions received information about Four Directions that they might not have otherwise known. Staff attending the intranet sessions learned how to use a browser to access the school intranet as well as how to create their own pages.

Recommendations:
Takini still needs connectivity. We must do what ever we can to make this happen. Future site visits should in part focus on creation of intranet pages and curriculum sharing. Students at Takini do a lot of authentic multimedia projects that we should encourage Takini to share.
