Sept 9-11, 1997
Santa Clara Day School


KU Personnel: Brian Newberry
Purpose of Visit: Initial Site Visit
Other Information: Provided support to Coordinator Robin Rodar in correcting problems with several computers. Discussed ways that technology could augment the school garden project that could be used to enhance the curricular uses of the garden. Evaluated the state of network wiring. Estimated the networkability of existing computers in place at the school. Many of the computers in place in classrooms at Santa Clara were deemed not worth networking due to age. Discussed requirements for computers to be on a network with Robin Rodar.

Oneida
Marty


KU Personnel: Brian Newberry
Purpose of Visit: Initial Site Visit
Other Information: At Oneida toured the garden project and discussed ways to use technology to share information about the activities there. These included having students do research in the garden, creating resources (HyperStudio, Web, etc.) to educate the community about the value of healthy diets and how to do a garden. Worked with several staff members in an exploration of the 4D site using a dial up connection in place in the Turtle School library. Presented information about the Four Directions project.

At Marty, dealt with several computer problems in the gifted computer lab. Estimated the networkability of the infrastructure. Marty consists of several older buildings which I did not expect the BIA to network as Marty is constructing a new high school facility. Discussed the networking plans for the new building with the construction manager.


Sept 26-Oct 5, 1997
Lummi


KU Personnel: Ron Aust
Purpose of Visit: To provide support with developing the technology integration goals, strategy and timelines for 1998 and to assist in defining and preparing Lummi's 4D team for the 4D summer institute held during July 1998 at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Purpose of Visit: Initial Site Visit
Other Information: At Rockpoint discussed the 4D intranet resources, loaded it onto an existing intranet server. Toured the computer graphics lab and examined a number of projects done by students. These were shown by Leona. Toured the old dorm that was slated for renovation and made some recommendations about networking.

At Cottonwood loaded HyperStudio on several computers and provided basic instruction on its use.

Purpose of Visit: To assist Takini in the production of presentation for TelEd
Other Information: Worked with Ben Rhodd on a cosmology project. Worked with two groups of students on producing resources based on the information provided by Mr. Rhodd and by KU Staff on the solar system. This was for a comparison study that Takini was doing for their presentation.

Other Information: Discussed the "timsela" (sp) unit that was proposed. Worked with Coordinator Candice Hollowhorn and the Takini 4D team on designing a Summer Institute plan that focused on ethnobotany and the timsela plant.

Other Information: Distributed the Four Directions CD. Repaired network patch panel under the direction of Gene Lott.

Purpose of Visit: Net Day
Other Information: Set up equipment and installed software in preparation for Net Day. Solved several network problems to ensure that Net Day activities succeeded. Demonstrated First Class, Web Browsing, and HyperStudio for community members, staff, and students.

Purpose of Visit: To present Four Directions and work on Summer Institute plan
Other Information: Along with Shelly Valdez did a presentation for a large assembly of staff members. Was interviewed by a local reporter and discussed the Four Directions project. Worked with staff and community members in the culture Mac lab assisting with HyperStudio and web page production. Worked with two PC support personnel to load software on the 4D purchased Dell computer. Discussed the use of FrontPage and other software for web development with PC support personnel.
