Kaman Au

Meet Kaman Au. Kaman, whose name is often mispronounced in a variety of ways, goes by the name of Carmen, which she says is how it sounds in her native language of Cantonese. Carmen is from Hong Kong, a busy city of over six million people in a space of about 416 square miles. However Carmen has been in the United States, in Lawrence, Kansas for the last four years while in school.

She is a senior at Kansas University and is the fifth person in her family to attend KU! She is pursuing a double major in Graphics Design and Illustration and is using these skills to help the Four Directions project. Just days after starting work, Carmen designed and printed the Four Directions Summer Institute Banquet program. She also began working immediately on the new design of the Four Directions web site. Her efforts in the next few weeks will be to continue working with the new web site design and the design of another Four Directions poster.

In her spare time Carmen likes to fish, rollerblade, and just sit on her porch and enjoy nature. When she lived in Hong Kong she lived in an apartment on the 32cnd floor, which made sitting on the porch a little bit different than the environment she enjoys in Lawrence! Another of Carmen's favorite activities is working on her many computers. Recently she has been learning how to build Ethernet cables to connect all of the computers that she has in her apartment!
